Uncomfortable Moments with Dave Little

I have always loved music.  Loved being around musicians. Loved writing songs.  I've tried to become a better guitar player. I've come to terms with my voice.  This album began as a boast to one of the best musicians I've ever known.  I told Carter Albrecht while sitting at the Barley House that I was going to write 30 songs in 30 days. I would periodically give him demos. He said he would listen. I think I ended up writing 15 or 20.   Most of them sucked. "EQ" and "Silhouette" came out of those writing sessions. I began thinking that I would do a half serious, half comedy record. I had been performing "Soccer Mom" for a year or so onstage. Several people thought it was a good idea to combine the two. But as I began writing I found that the "serious" songs were more interesting to play and work on.  I hooked up with Salim after contacting his wife, Jayme, to take photos of me and my kids as an anniversary gift to my wife. I had known of Salim for years but had never talked to him. I had also written a song "Good Night" for my wife as a gift and decided to record it at Salim's studio. The session went so well that we talked about some of the other songs I had, namely "EQ" and "Off Kilter". We finished those 2 songs in 4 hours. Carter came in one afternoon and laid down the guitar. The rest of the album progressed that same way: 2 hour session, decide on live drums or drum loop, record what I played, record Salim, figure out who else we could get, etc. Trey Carmichael came in one day and laid down drums for 4 songs in about an hour. Danny Balis stayed late after a rehearsal and played some great bass. I asked Chris Holt several times to come in and play something. And his fine work is all over my record. He led us to Steve Luthye, who came in one afternoon and in 20 minutes had turned "Bad Ass" into something bad ass. Peter Schmidt had expressed interest in doing the artwork and I jumped at the chance to include him in the project. Salim found Carl Saff and he gave us a tremendous master. It was a terrific experience. I have 5 or 6 new songs and I plan on going back in with Salim in the fall.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. Or not.
~ Dave

Note: Rumor has it Dave managed to finagle the roster of musicians who played on the new cd to back him for a very special cd release concert at The Barley House, tentatively scheduled for July 16th. Stay Tuned for officially official word.
